Current Events

India recently did some testing of their missile technology, which would have the capability of reaching China with a nuclear bomb. India’s missle technology is way better than North Koreas. The United States are being a little cocky about not caring about these missle testings. This is bad cause once your done testing your missles, then you could fire them because then you are saticfied with them and they could do a lot of damage to city. This could propbly even be Nuclear activity that we could be ignoring. If the Indain government finds out that we don’t care about there missles then we could be in big trouble. Cause if we forget about them, then they could catch us on a surprise attack we may not be ready. India’s missile testing was a not a flexing of military muscle and was not done with hostile intentions. India was just stating that they were just testing there technology. Either way this is a big day for the country of India. India is part of the big boys now cause they have nuclear weapons that they are testing and if they are testing them then that means they could by all means use them against other countries.         http://www.2012currentevents.com/page/4/

Current Events

A video has been released on a man that has been captured but Al-Qaeda. This man is Warren Weinstein, who has been captured and held hostage by Al-Qaeda. The video shows Weinstein telling a message to president Obama. Warren says in this video that he has been taken care of but that in order for him to stay alive, Obama must stop bombing Afghanistan and Yemem. If the president does not come through with the demands then Weinstein will be killed.   Weinstein has told the president to act quickly because if Al-Qaeda keeps waiting, then there probly just going to kill him. The longer we wait to act the less likely he is to make it out of there. The president is faced with another difficult decision and he needs to make the right one, and if he does not then he could get this man killed. War is always a bad since we just killed Bin Laden. Many believe these wars should have and could have been avoided. This is why Congress is allowed to declare war on a country. Cause if they let anyone else do it, then they might make a mistake and could cost the United States in the long run.        http://www.2012currentevents.com/page/2/

Movie Reviews Apartheid

Three years after Nelson Mandela’s release from prison, talks between Mandela’s African National Congress and the government of President FW de Klerk show signs of reaching an agreement that will end apartheid. Frontline correspondent John Matisonn investigates the forces and politics behind the ongoing violence and examines how de Klerk and Mandela have pushed through the peace process, detailing what has led both leaders to major compromises in their negotiations. The people of uganda were treated very poorly. When a T.V. station came to film in the prison they never smiled or showed any sign of happiness. The prisoniers also said that the guards would abuse them when acctully the prisoniers were smarter than them. Nelson Mandella was put in this prison. Prisoners were only allowed one visit every 6 months, and these visits would only last about 30 minutes.one of the most interesting things that i found weird was that the guards would become friends with the prisoners. Also the prisoners would teach the guards there knowledge cause sometimes the prisoners were smarter than the guards. Once Apartheid died, and Mandella came into power, all of the prisoners got released. Mandella is still in power to this day. This documentary related to our unit because it covered all there things we talked about in class such as tolerance, racial problems and just mistreating people that don’t deserve it. Mandella showed tolerance when we let the prisoners go cause he said i can’t punish the people that didn’t do anything wrong. He was also tired of seeing people getting mistreated, so he saw a problem and he tried to solve it and he did. In my opinion i think we need more people like Mr. Mandella. If we did our country would be more safe and less hated. People would be nicer to other people and then there would be more acts of tolerance.

Movie Reviews

In class we watched a video about a movie called paper clips. A school named Whitwell Middle School started a project to collect paper clips. Their goal was to try to collect as many paper clips as the number of people that died during the Holocaust. Six million was the goal of paper clips they wanted to collect. At first the project did not get that many paper clips because no one really knew about the project and it was not that big during the time. Then after a long period of time they finally got a big amount of paper clips. They got approximately 24 million paper clips. They got way more than the minimum.  They also got letters from famous people. They also got letter from Holocaust survivors. One day, survivors from the Holocaust came to visit Whitwell Middle School, and told stories about their crucial life to children. Their stories were so harsh that it even touched the children and they began to tear up.The school was so touched by there stories that they made a special dinner for them. Time past and the school still kept on getting paperclips. One day on of the survivors came up with a great idea. His idea was to put all the paper clips into a Holocaust railcar. They were trying to find it all over the world and they went to Germany to find one. Finally they found one and they shipped it to the United States of America. They then asked all the people in the town to help and put the paperclips into the cart.Once students from other schools began to help them put the paperclips into the car, the project became global. What i learned from this video was that if i could do something little to help someone it could impact them deeply. And if i do a good job at that task maybe other people will be impacted instead of one person.

I find it wrong for the world to follow a theory based on selfishness. I find this wrong because if people follow this phrase then the world will be a bad place. This happens when a country will boost and this would cause a country to test this country’s power. An example we used in class of how it brought good to the world is probally when we talk about a country that rises to power for its own selfish gain. I think Rosa Parks is trying to say that we should influence the next generation to make the future of our lives better so we don’t go through what she went through. She is trying to say that our influences can make the world better. Eventhough some things are wrong because you are selfish, it can still help thing get better. This shows that if we work together to fight against the wrong thing then we can all make the world a better place. It’s like there is a good side and bad side. I agree with Rosa Parks because of the thing she did. Rosa Parks knew knew that if she fought for her rights then maybe she would turn peoples lives around, and thats what she did by influencing the civil rights movement.

Museum Write-up

The museum was able to incorporate the sense of struggle through famous world events.  They provided us with knowledge on these topics. It is important to know the meaning of tolerance. After all we encounter diversity every day of our lives. We must learn to accept the differences in an individual to acquire a brighter future. During our visit to the museum we were able to walk through all the intolerant things people have done through the years. The holocaust was one of the biggest intolerable things someone could do. Hitler was an evil man that absolutely didn’t have tolerance. They began to establish death camps where Jews were exterminated through the crematorium, being hung, gas chambers, as well as other cruel ways. Newborn babies were thrown out windows. The nazis did not care who they killed, cause they had one thing in there mind which was that they wanted to be the superior race of the world.  Families were destroyed while the sense of hope cease to exist.

Tolerance: a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc., differ from one’s own; freedom from bigotry.

  • Why is tolerance such a difficult value for most people to have?
  • Why do you think intolerance has existed since the…

Steven Canedo       A lot of people are different so they have a different view on tolerance. Tolerence has been around for a long time. One way is the holocaust because hitler killed alot of people on what they looked liked and how they believed in things. Another way is when mao made everyone follow communism and that everything was about him. Like in the movie Life is Great, there was a wedding nd they sang a song about mao. There is alot in the first world, and the types of government allow them the express themselves. So in a democracy you can talk about how you feel but in a communist, but you have to follow the rules and what your leader says no matter how powerful your leader is.    Bignasty out!

So the Congo has been being fought over for several years now and the world is barely doing anything about it. When people her the word congo the first thing they think of is that rich and rare minerals it has. Therefore, everyone wants a little piece so they could have their share of these minerals. And the people that live in the Congo are taking the worst of it. People are just dying and nobody cares. Women and girls are getting raped cause people are going crazy over the Congo. I couldn’t believe people would go so crazy about the these minerals. I mean cmon there just minerals, your not going to die without them so why fight over them. From watching this video i have learned a lot and that if your willing to die for something that you are probably not going to get, then why put yourself into danger like that.
